) Thai Finance Minister To Discuss Capital Flow At ASEAN +3 Meeting
BANGKOK, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Thai Finance Minister Chalongphob Sussangkarn is set to unofficially discuss a plan to contain large-scale capital inflows and outflows in ASEAN with his counterparts this week. TNA quoted a ministry source as saying that the minister would attend an ASEAN investment and development 'road show' in New York on Tuesday after participating in the meeting of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. Thai officials believe it is perfect timing for combined investment promotion road shows by ASEAN, in order to attract foreign investors to invest directly and indirectly in all of the region's economies. The source said Thailand will give priority to investments in the metropolitan Bangkok electric mass transit projects and joint investment with the private sector in other mega-projects. More>>

Troops also occupied Buddhist monasteries in a bid to clear the streets of Myanmar's revered monks, who have spearheaded the demonstrations. The government said 10 people have been killed since the violence began earlier this week, but diplomats say the toll is likely much higher. Dissident groups have put the number as high as 200, although that number could not be verified. More>>

) CNN tracks perilous times for planet
It's a tough world, all right. Too bad it's not tougher. Right now Earth is looking pretty fragile as it suffers from increasing human punishment.
This isn't really news, of course. But CNN has packed the two-night, four-hour Planet in Peril with information and images that give a familiar story new urgency.
Airing Tuesday and Wednesday at 9 p.m., Planet in Peril dispatched Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, as well as Animal Planet wildlife biologist Jeff Corwin, to report on far-flung instances of environmental change. This term encompasses four key areas: climate change, vanishing natural habitats, disappearing species and human overpopulation.
''At first glance, it may seem unfocused,'' executive producer Charlie Moore said. More>>

) Thailand nabs paedophile suspect
Thai police said they had picked up the 32-year-old, accused of raping young boys in Vietnam and Cambodia several years ago, in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima, 250 km northeast of Bangkok and well off the normal tourist trail.Neil was no stranger to Thailand, having once taught in a Bangkok language school, but his hiding place was revealed by a trace on the cellphone of his Thai boyfriend, tourist police chief Chuchart Suwannakom told Reuters."They went together to different provinces, probably on the run, and the last call made was from Nakhon Ratchasima," Chuchart said. "So I sent my men there."Thai police issued a warrant for Neil's arrest on Thursday, a week after he fled South Korea, after two Thai teenagers accused him of paying for oral sex when they were 9 and 14, grounds for prosecution under Thai law.
